Hello, I'm not sure if anyone has looked ahead at this week yet and what we have to do as a group but, I've looked ahead and thought of some ideas and wanted to share the. The first thing we need to do together will be deciding what type of assignment we would do with our class ( that directly relates to our Project-based Learning topic-Staying Healthy/Healthy habits) to demonstrate cultural understanding and global awareness. We will need write up an informal lesson plan. Examples might be having students in your class and in a class from a different place compare and contrast differences and similarities between their regions as they relate to the content of their projects (i.e. different/similar vegetables, birds, weather, etc.) We have a form to follow for our lesson plan which is the (Template for Virtual Penpal lesson plan). Only one person from the group needs to upload it to the dropbox by sunday at midnight. I have some ideas I wanted to share, I was thinking for our location, to choose a completely different cultural then the United States, maybe India. Women are not allowed to be as independent as we are here in the United States we may want to address what healthy snacks they eat and meals they prepare, along the fitness component we could focus on are they allowed separate times for themselves to attend or participate in gyms or yoga. Or we could focus on fitness clothing where people in India may have to have their arms and face covered as part as their culture. In the United States women often wear just a tank/sports bra and shorts. Let me know your ideas and what you think, these are just some of my ideas.
Once we've done that the second thing we need to do is create a map in Google Maps.
The map need to be related to our Virtual Penpals assignment. The google map will then need to be
put into/attached into our blog with an explanation about the map.

Hi,
ReplyDeleteI really like the idea of India because of how different it is compared to the US so I think that is the perfect choice! In terms of a topic I really like the healthy food option as well as the clothing option. If I had to choose one I think I like the healthy foods the best because there is a lot that can be done with that topic! Whatever everyone else wants though works for me. We also need to identify an age/grade we want to focus on. I'm thinking upper elementary or even middle school but again whatever everyone else wants. Great ideas!

One idea for healthy meals could be having each region (India and US) pick their top two or three healthy meals they enjoy and compare and contrast the nutrition facts/labels between the meals! (there will obviously have to be some instruction on how to read labels whether we pretend we already did that lesson or incorporate it into this one).

Okay great!! We can wait and see what the other group members think like you said. I think thats a great idea for healthy meals. I also agree on the grade, upper elementary or even middle school I think both would work. Thanks.

I really like the idea of comparing the two/three healthy meals and comparing the labels!
DeleteOoo I like using India too, its a region that is fairly different from our own. I agree with you both on the healthy food options, that's something I think that we could find examples of easily and it relates to our topic well. Also is there a specific grade we need to identify or is Upper El. close enough? I think grades 4-6 would be good to choose from, kids are starting to get more independent and may even pack their own lunches or help grocery shop

Im glad you like the ideas as well. Kids are definitely getting more and more independent. In the template it says what grade/age so I think we do have to pick a specific grade. Im thinking maybe 5th grade, thats right in between 4-6 and its not to young. Let me know what you think about 5th grade.

I was also thinking for the Template, I could open it with google docs and share it with everyone so we could all work on it together and once were done one member from the from can upload it into the dropbox.

I really like the India idea and I like middle school age 6th grade because now they are in middle school and more independent.

I also think that the penpal could be a girl in the united states talking to a teenage girl in India. They can talk about what their diet looks like, what they do to stay active, what they wear while staying active and what they do to keep up their mental health.
ReplyDeleteMegan Southland
I love the idea of that. tTalking about what their diet looks like, what they wear while staying active and what they do to keep up their mental health. I think that includes everything we've talked about. I shared the template with everyone so everyone should be able to work on it now.
Delete-Alexa Stephenson.
Did everyone get the Template on google docs?
ReplyDeleteI did
ReplyDelete-Morgan Klabunde
Okay great!! I've answered about 5/6 of the bullets on the Template and will get back on tomorrow sometime, feel free to add to anything I have or change.
DeleteI've started working on the penpal ones on the template. We need to get this done so we can work on the google maps.
ReplyDeleteI agree, if people could fill out some of the template that would be great. Theres a total of 17 bullets plus the objective so if everyone does 3/4 it would be much faster. I've already done 6.

I'm getting on the template now and will get done what I can before work, but I'll be able to work on it more tonight.
DeleteOkay great!! Theres only about 3/4 more bullets left so we should be done with that tonight. Once its down ill post it in the DropBox and then we can work on the map.
DeleteHey guys! I'm currently working on the template, I wrote out an answer to the second bullet in the product area. I'm having a little trouble finding a good way to word my thoughts. If you come up with something that might sound better feel free to edit/change anything, if it sounds good to you guys then we can always leave it!:)
ReplyDeleteKim Jones
I finished the remaining bullets on our template but feel free to review what I wrote and change anything! Once everyone is okay with everyone's work we can post it to dropbox
ReplyDelete^Kim Jones
DeleteGreat Kim, thanks for finishing the last bullets. I will review it now.
ReplyDeleteI reviewed the template and I think it looks great. If everyone will review it and see if they're okay with it or if they want to edit/change or add anything. Once everyones reviewed it I will post it in the dropbox.
ReplyDeleteI plan on uploading it to the dropbox tonight by 11pm. I also looked in the dropbox but I don't see a spot for it in the dropbox. Does anyone have a spot for in the dropbox or under the module?

ReplyDeleteI posted the Template in the dropbox. There is now a spot for it. We now need to work on the map. I'm kind of confused on the map and what were actually suppose to do so if anyone has ideas or understands comment your ideas!! -Alexa Stephenson

DeleteI'm wondering if the map is just for us to show where we are and then where our virtual penpal is
ReplyDeleteOur elearning thing she posted about it just states that it is up to us to determine how we want to relate our map to our project, as long as we have an explanation along with it
DeleteYes, how did we want to relate it to our project? I did look on google how to create a map in google maps and I watched a video but some of the stuff on there computer I didn't have on mine so I don't know if mine just isn't updated or what. We can first decide how we can it to relate to our project. I think you might be right about the map, it might just be to show where we are and where our penpal is. I'm not 100% sure but I think as long as the map relates to the project were good.

Kim has sent me a picture of the map and I agreed that it looked good to go. She will be posting it soon with the description of how it relates, if you have anything you thing should be said, let us know! Megan Southland
